The El Dorado Nature Center & Park in Long Beach

March 16, 2020
Category: Long Beach Attractions

If you’re looking for a breath of fresh air and a quiet place to escape to in the midst of a bustling city, then The El Dorado Nature Center in Long Beach should be your next stop.

The majestic El Dorado Nature Center was built 1969 and sports over 100 acres of pristine land and has multiple lakes. It’s also a wildlife sanctuary, so the chance to see different kinds of animals in their natural habitat is promising. Best of all, entrance is free.

Some of the animals you might have a chance to lay your eyes on include squirrels, white herons, hummingbirds, ospreys, hawks and even Bob, the nature center’s prized turtle.

Snuggled within the park is the Visitor Center where you can go and find out more information about the park and purchase items at the gift shop. Included is a museum gallery filled with pieces from local artists.

Since the land is sensitive and valuable to the city and the community, there are certain rules that visitors need to abide by to maintain the integrity of the park which includes:

  • No feeding of the wildlife
  • No smoking
  • No fishing
  • Walking, no jogging or running on the trails
  • No prop or staged photography, just causal shooting.

There are also no picnics allowed because of the vast amount of animals on the premises. Maintaining the health of the animals and the park are the priorities.

When you’re in Long Beach, go ahead and drop by this beautiful nature area and soak in the sights and sounds. You’ll be glad you did!
